Spring Blossoms – March DT Project for Tsunami Rose Designs

Spring is in the air……….

For my March DT project I wanted to do something that was bright, colorful and shouted “spring!” I used some of the floral big elements, the new bingo cards, the foral paper packs as well as some of the floral library cards for this journal. While I wanted it to be bright and full of spring images, I still wanted there to be a slight vintage feel to it, so many of the pages are still coffee dyed and all the journaling cards and elements have been distressed and inked with vintage photo. I also used some of the butterfly clip art from TRD to add to the floral images and theme of the journal. I used patterned scrapbook paper from K&Company to accompany the TRD floral papers and add a pop of more color to this journal. For the cover, I used an upcycled corrugated cardboard box that I covered in wrinkled packing paper. I then handpainted the cover, first with gesso, then with a custom mixed color paint. I have never been a fan of green, but for some reason I find myself recently obsessed with different shades of green. I call this color green – Spring Green. It is a mix between a mint green and a clover green. The cover is also embellished with silk flowers and a removable spine charm, that includes two handmade mixed media beads. I had a lot of fun making this journal and dreaming of Spring (while it is still below freezing here in Michigan. ugh!)

Rose Notecards – February DT Project for Tsunami Rose Designs

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

For my February DT Project I used the Rose Notecards Journal Kit and Add on by Tsunami Rose Designs. Instead of a vintage vibe, I instead was inspired to go with more of a colorful and spring theme to this journal. With the black, white and coral pink tones in the journal I decided to add touches of mint green and teal to it. (As I am obsessed with the pink and green color combo right now.) There is a lot of sewing detail through this journal, including sewn ruffles of cotton fabric and chiffon as well. Flowers, ribbons, fibers and tulle were used to embellish the journal – creating a colorful and tactile piece with bits and pieces to touch and journal on. The cover is a gutted book, that has been covered with crinkled kraft paper and hand painted to look like white faux leather. Pink and coral flowers embellish the cover and give a sneak peek into what is inside the journal. The journal has 3 signatures, 80 pages and contains glassine bags, pockets and altered paperclips perfect for keeping photos and personal memorabilia in.

Vintage Sewing Journal – January DT for Tsunami Rose Designs

For my January DT Project I decided to do a Vintage Sewing Themed Journal. I used all of the sewing themed papers, tags and big elements journaling cards from Tsunami Rose along with a mix of other designer papers from her as well. This journal is packed with mini booklets and vintage sewing ephemera. I used an upcycled box along with Kraftex to construct the cover of the journal, which is covered in sewn muslin and various ruffled fabrics and laces. I added a spine charm to this journal as well that includes vintage buttons, beads, a vintage thimble, a sewing bobbin, a vintage key, jingle bells and other charms. This journal is packed with envelopes, pockets, glassine bags and removable elements for journaling.

Vintage “Charming” Fabric Covered Journal – December DT Project for Tsunami Rose Designs

Happy Holidays to everyone!  This month I tried to do something a little different compared to my normal style journal.  I was very inspired by Beth Wallen and Angie Bunner and wanted to design a journal more for the purposes of stashing memories in, rather than simply journaling in.  I also included a lot of sewing in this journal – which I am now addicted to.  I used kraft envelopes as the page bases (similar to mini album style construction) for this journal.  I used the Charming Fragments journal kit as the base for this journal and included a lot of other envelopes and ephemera from Daisy’s shop.  This is my second journal using the Charming Fragments journal kit and I love this kit – it is so pretty and versatile.  The cover is constructed from an up-cycled box which is covered in fabric.  I used muslin, laces and tulle for the cover.  The journal measures 8×6, it has 20 pages front and back and includes lots of pockets and tuck spots.  I love the way this journal turned out and I hope you do too!  🙂  Thanks for stopping by!

Vintage Floral Journal – November DT Project for Tsunami Rose Designs

For this months journal I used the Life Abloom journal kit as the base of my journal along with numerous bits and pieces of other journal kits and ephemera kits.  I used a gutted book that I painted and distressed for the cover.  The journal measures 5 3/4 by 9 1/4 with a 2 inch spine and has 5 signatures with over 120 pages.  I used coffee dyed papers, lace, ribbons, fibers, feathers, both silk and paper flowers, vintage buttons and handmade enamel dots to embellish this journal.  The journal is full of pockets and tuck spots, journal cards and tags.  There is plenty of blank space for journaling as well as places to add photos and personal memorabilia.  The main colors in this journal are pink, green and brown and the journal has a very vintage and romantic feel to it.

Tea Party Journal – October DT Project for Tsunami Rose Designs

I am currently obsessed with the combination of green and pink, so this kit was amazing to work with! It is shabby, vintage and beautiful. I used green tea dyed paper to compliment this kit, along with hand made shabby fabric flowers in the journal. I used doilies, silk flowers, tulle, buttons, ribbon and fibers to embellish the journal. I wanted to compliment the kit, but not overwhelm it. I also added some hand written recipes for desserts and sweet treats to add a little something personal to it as well.

“Christmas List” Journal – Tsunami Rose DT Project

Here is my September DT Project using the new Christmas List kit. This kit is full of versatile beautiful Holiday and Christmas images. I loved working with this kit. I decided to try and keep this journal a little more on the simple side as well as tried a new kind of binding system with additional pages folding out. This journal is full of pockets, extra journaling spots and plenty of blank pages for journaling and adding photos. The journal is made out of a gutted book and contains 3 signatures, with 3 additional signatures that fold out. It measures 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 with a 1 1/2 inch spine. It is super chunky already, but contains removable elements to make room for other personal goodies. It is fun and festive and ready to be filled with special holiday memories.

“Wish Journal” DT Project for TsunamiRose Designs

Hello and Welcome to my August DT journal for Tsunami Rose Designs.

Vintage. Collage. Beauty. These are the main words I would have to use to describe the Charming Fragments Kit. I used this along with the add on kit and numerous other pieces of ephemera from various kits by Daisy for this journal. It has a 4.5 inch spine and 6 signatures. The journal measures 5 and7/8 inches wide by 8 ½ inches wide. There are over 160 pages, includes 15 envelopes, large pockets and bags and has 3 mini books inside as well. This chunky journal is stuffed full of goodies, extra journaling spots and tons of ephemera.   The cover was constructed with corrugated cardboard, covered and painted with acrylic paints and glazes. I used a number of other mixed media techniques to finish off the cover. The signatures were all stitched in by hand. Each page is an adventure waiting to happen. I named this my “Wish” journal, so I could stuff it full of all my hopes, dreams and wishes.   This is a journal that will last many years to come and I can’t wait to see what treasures I find to fill it up with.

Merry Christmas in July – Tsunami Rose DT Project “Christmas Gift”

Merry Christmas in July!  For this journal I used Tsunami Roses “Christmas Gift” Journal kit along with her “Big Elements Christmas Cards #10 and #13.”  This is a gorgeous vintage kit with a lot of blue tones in it.  I wanted to add more greens and reds to it to make the whole book scream CHRISTMAS!  I used coffee dyed papers to accent the vintage nature of the kit and added bits and pieces of other Christmas themed ephemera, embellishments and stamps from my stash.  This journal is full of embellishments, tags, photo mats, tucks spots and pockets.  It’s a perfect place to store all those pictures, memories and memorabilia from your holiday season.  It turned out to be quite a chunky journal bursting with holiday spirit!

New Beginnings Journal – Tsunami Rose Design Team Project

I have been lucky enough to be invited to be a part of the Tsunami Rose Design Team.  For the June project I chose to use the New Beginnings Journal Kit.  It is full of purples, pinks, greens, florals and butterflies.  Needless to say, it is gorgeous.  I had so much fun creating with this journal kit.  I tried to push myself out of my box and try new things.  For one, I played with green tea dying paper, as well as kool aid dying.  I used cheesecloth as an element in embellishments for the first time.  I used both sprays and raspberry tea to dye the cheesecloth.  I tried to use my aesthetic and style to compliment Daisy Collins’ beautiful designs.

This journal is full of color and texture, both visual and tactile.  I finally reached a point I had to stop adding things to the journal, because it was simply becoming too big.  I hope you enjoy looking at this journal as much as I enjoyed creating it.
